Top 12 Family Christmas Songs for your Christmas Day Playlist

It’s Christmas! Hopefully you’ve got most of your gifts sorted. You may even be organised enough and have them wrapped already. Go you. By now, you probably know where you’re spending Christmas and have planned your day. But wait…what about the festive music. No Christmas is complete without an appropriate soundtrack.

Christmas CD or Not?

Do you still buy CDs? I don’t. They often have a few good tracks and then a load of filler. Any Christmas CD has always been a disappointment and I end up skipping through the rubbish songs. To avoid this, I now just have a Christmas playlist. We use the free version of Spotify which allows you to create custom playlists with practically every tune out there.

On Spotify, if you listen to a few ads back to back you can then have a block of interrupted listening. In my opinion this is better than most radio stations and you get to select your favourite songs. Surprisingly, many Christmas songs are just love songs set around Christmas. Below I’ve compiled my top Christmas tracks to include that are more upbeat with lots of festive spirit.

Christmas Songs

Merry Christmas Everyone – Shakin’ Stevens

Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee

Do they Know It’s Christmas – Band Aid

One More Sleep – Leona Lewis

Jingle Bell Rock – Bobby Helms

Step Into Christmas – Elton John

You’ll also want to mix in a few children’s Christmas songs. These are great to get little ones joining in and singing along. I’ve pick my top four that are well know and so you shouldn’t stumble when trying to remember the lyrics. Saying that, I always get stuck after the first verse of Jingle Bells.

Children’s Christmas Songs

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Jingle Bells

When Santa got Stuck up the Chimney

Five Mince Pies (alternative to Five Cherry Buns)

and finally…

Santa Shark

No playlist would be complete without a nod to the song of the year. Of course, this festive version is no where near as catchy as the original but if you pop the video on through YouTube you’re bound to have captivated youngsters keen to watch and listen. If you can bear to put it on repeat you may even be able to swig down a hot coffee with a splash of Baileys.

What’s your all time favourite Christmas Song? Mine is Step into Christmas. Whenever I hear it, it just gets me right in the festive spirit.

This post was not sponsored by Spotify, YouTube or Baileys…I wish it was.
