My Fairy Garden Review: Inspiration for your Christmas shopping

To all the smug mummies out there who keep telling me they’ve practically finished their Christmas shopping and one who has started to actually wrap, just stop. I don’t want to hear it. It’s stressing me out. I can’t be the only one who hasn’t started. We are mid November so I guess I do need to get a wriggle on.

So far I’ve downloaded a Christmas gift app organiser. It’s fab as it lets me set budgets for individuals, add ideas and mark when gifts have been purchased. It even has a a little pie chart to tell me how much I’ve spent so far. As a thrifty mummy, I love this but planning is one thing. I need to start buying.

Here’s one gift idea I’m sure lots of you will love. A fairy garden. My sister bought Jessica this for her 3rd birthday last month and both my girls loved it so much, I thought I’d share it with you all. The box says 4+ but amazon recommend from 36 months which I agree with.

A fairy without the pink

Generally I avoid buying my girls princess or fairy gifts as I don’t want their play to be dominated by pink and frills. (Nannie and Auntie can’t resist) However two of our favourite bedtime books are Freddie and the Fairy and Fairy Magic so I knew this gift was going to be a hit.

Inside you get a sturdy plant pot which I initially worried would be ceramic. In fact, it looks realistic but is actually plastic so no risk of smashing. The container easily separates into three sections; a top plant pot, central fairy house and base with moat. When you water, there is drainage into the moat. This is perfect if you have over eager little waterers.

Included, there is also a fairy. Our fairy garden included Lily and a friendly little frog with a few lily pads which look lovely in the moat. There is also a windmill to place in the garden too.

Jessica and Emily enjoyed helping to fill the plant pot with soil, adding the included grass seeds, covering them and watering. It was a great opportunity to talk about what plants need to grow. We chose a sunny window sill and waited.

This product is fab for encouraging leaning through play and patience. Each day, we gave the fairy garden a little water and sure enough our grass began to grow. There are lots of ideas for how to personalise your garden and great suggestion for making fairy furniture from old bits and bobs.

For less than £15, I’m sure this would suit many budgets and be used time and time again. I’m thinking we’ll pop some sunflower seeds in come spring.

Have you got someone in mind for this that’d love their own fairy garden this Christmas?

  1. I often see these fairy gardens in the stores while the girls want to look at toys. I’ve wondered myself if they are ceramic pots – good to know they aren’t! I think my kids would love a fairy garden, but right now we don’t have a windowsill to put it in!

    1. I’m pretty sure they can be put outside too but personally would want to wait until the spring for this.

  2. My daughter would love this and she is 11 lol! She loves things like this and has had many toys like it in the past. Plus she is a big fan of fairies and pink things and anything classed as girly! #blogstravaganza

  3. I love this idea! My two are a little young just yet, but I can;t wait until we do things like this together! Thanks so much for sharing with #Blogstravaganza xx

  4. This is so precious! I have a little girl and have been trying to think of some fun projects we can do together. She’s barely 1, so it’ll be a few years. Love this idea and it looks like your girls had a blast!

    1. I have a future gift list when I see something that isn’t age appropriate I jot it down and check just befirebirthdays/Xmas.

  5. This looks like a lovely idea. We made our own fairy gardens back in the spring and all three loved it, all be it a lot less refined than from a kit!! #familyfunlinky

    1. I’m sure the wilder version looked fab

  6. This looks super cute! Ben would love the messy aspect of it no doubt!! Definitely something I’d be looking to get him, plus me and Hubby are rubbish at gardening – maybe he’ll get the green fingers for us!
Thanks for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back next week!

  9. That is so cute! I would want one! I know just the girl in my family who would enjoy this! Thank you for sharing on #thechristmaslinky

  10. It’s a great idea. Kids love the idea of fairies at the bottom of the garden. This looks like a great way to get them started. When they’re older they can check out my blog for things to make themselves for the fairy garden!!
